Wind Washing

« Back to Glossary Index

Wind washing occurs when wind enters a building’s envelope (like through soffit or roof vents in an attic) and moves through or around insulation materials. This air movement carries heat away, diminishing the insulation’s ability to resist heat transfer. Air infiltration can displace loose-fill insulation, bridge the thermal barrier, and expose the drywall to attic temperatures.
