Tuckpointing

« Back to Glossary Index

Tuckpointing, while not a completely lost art, is a specialized skill in brickwork that can be challenging to find experienced practitioners for. It involves repairing and restoring the mortar joints between bricks or stones, enhancing both the aesthetic and structural integrity of the masonry.

The technique is used to repair, decorate, or restore mortar joints in brickwork. It involves carefully removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it with new mortar, often using two contrasting colors to create a visual effect of “very fine” joints. The process not only improves the appearance of the brickwork but also helps to prevent water damage and further deterioration of the structure.
