Eventually, everything boils down to owning that house that you have been dreaming of. You have tried and have become tired of living in apartments, in condominiums, in rental homes, and in your parents' living room. However, you still crave and long for that structure that would be under your name and that you can call your home. And if luck prevails, you may own the home that you have been dreaming of.

Seeing the fishbowl or the cap being passed around again? Your office community is again beginning to bet on who will win the NCAA and which school will dominate the entire NCAA roster. There will be a frenzy of hoop talks and fearless forecasts that is so indicative of university basketball betting. There is a reason why people call it the "March Madness."

Ola! Garynsmith,
Thanks for the info, My father is getting ready to begin a huge home improvement project(i.e. renovation and restoration). However he has a huge problem. When my grandmother passed back in 1984, she left the house and property to my father and his other 5 siblings. The problem is, 4 of the siblings have been dead for 25 years. When they were, they never paid property taxes, utility bills, or contributed to anything with the household, my father has been the main person who occupies the house, maintains the utilities, AND pays the property taxes. My father is in the beginning stages of the project but cannot seem to finance the project. In order to obtain a home equity line of credit, he is told that the remaining parties on the deed that are deceased would have to be removed from the deed. My question is, the children of the decease? They are trying to get house out of my fathers name so they can sell the estate and get the money. if my father gets the line of credit does he owe them anything?
Keep up the good work

Yes sir, you're correct and you made an excellent point with your comment on Facebook about how some borrowers who work with the FHA 203K Rehab program think they're experienced enough to perform work on the job. As a consultant who has worked with hundreds of these rehab projects, when a homeowner elects to participate in the project with sweat equity the project starts to unravel. Working along side the contractor also opens both parties to increased liability. It's best to hire an experienced contractor and leave the job to the experts.

Weighing in on this post as a contractor I usually find most homeowners who do create that list of what they want to do are 50% ahead of other homeowners. As a contractor though I find most of these lists don't take into account value engineering or alternative solutions to solve the problem. I suggest interviewing 3 contractors and hiring one you trust to help figure out what the list really should be. Thirty percent of homeowners who bring these lists to me end up deciding a remodel is not the right thing to do
